Airbus’ Global Earth Observation Challenge encouraged startups to innovate and develop new applications based on satellite data. More than 130 projects from five continents were submitted for the competition, among which 23 start-ups were pre-selected based on their originality and relevance as well as their technical and commercial feasibility. These “semi-finalists” entered a subsequent round in order to further develop the proposals where 6 were chosen.
Studiomapp took part of the competition with our Saas, called Qirate, a location intelligence tool that, through the use of satellite data, helps in evaluating the quality of life of an urban area or enhance the position of real estate, housing and hotels.
During the final, held on 20 October at the Airbus PlayLab in Toulouse, France, the six finalists presented their projects in front of representatives of different Airbus departments, including strategy, innovation, and marketing and sales. The other finalists were Orbital Witness, from the UK; Ozius, from Australia; Ursa Space System, from the U.S.; Kermap from France; 23insights from the Netherlands.
The ceremony was officiated by Jean-Michel Darroy, VP Head of Services Growth at Airbus Defence and Space and Martin Pentier, Digital Business Innovation Manager at Airbus Intelligence. The Qirate project, was ranked fifth and was awarded with an Airbus satellite data voucher worth 5,000 euros.
Studiomapp will use this very high-definition satellite imagery provided by Airbus for rating the quality of life and the gentrification level in some of the most touristic surroundings of Lisbon, as part a recently project we are developing (www.organicity.org).
